"Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom shall send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I. Send me!" He said, "Go, and tell this people: 'Keep on listening, but do not perceive; Keep on looking, but do not understand.' Render the hearts of this people insensitive, their ears dull, and their eyes dim, otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and return and be healed." (Isaiah 6:8-10)
The I said, "Lord, how long?" Then He answered, "Until cities are devastated and without inhabitant, houses are without people, and the land is utterly desolate. "The Lord has removed men far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land." (Isaiah 6:11,12)
This scripture has always been one of my favorites for stating a particular matter plainly. I am sure that many of you who are familiar with the Gospels of the New Testament have seen parts of this in all four(Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). And there is a reason for this, which mind you, I will cover later. For we must be careful when observing the Word of God, keeping ourselves from relying on our own understanding; For that would be similar to one who were to lean on his staff, and in a moments time, it pierces his hand.
For the voice of the Lord, is: the living and enduring Word of God! Or did you not know that the Lord reveals Himself to those who seek to understand His Word with all their heart and soul? For He even speaks out concerning a time, being now, when He (not the church) will gather certain individuals to Himself by the revelation of His truth through the fulfillment of prophecy (ie: The Revelation of Jesus Christ). "For the exile was indeed long, but now it is time to return", for you who understand me...
Therefore say to them, "Thus says the Lord of Hosts, 'Return to Me, that I may return to you,' declares the Lord of Hosts. "Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, ' Thus says the Lord of Hosts, "Return now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds," 'But they did not listen or give heed to Me," declares the Lord. "Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? But did not My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, overtake your fathers? Then they repented and said, 'As the Lord of Hosts purposed to do to us in accordance with our ways and our deeds, so He has dealt with us.'" (Zechariah 1:1-6)
Getting back to why the Lord has this tendency of repeating Himself (Through His Word): This really isn't a complicated issue. For it has something to do with concept of "listening". Tell me, have ever you ever tried to get someone's attention, or better yet, tried to get a "point across" to somebody who is hard of hearing? Did you find yourself getting frustrated? Maybe you worded it differently each time? Now, think of how the Lord feels- in regards to us...
I would like to ask the reader to imagine, momentarily, that you can hear my voice. But now your mind registers communication by sight, and not by sound- am I right? So technically you aren't hearing anything, or are you? My point is, that words are the voice of the soul, regardless if they are heard with the dull-hearing ears or seen by the dim-seeing eyes. For seeing is hearing, and hearing is seeing. Now imagine if God spoke, and you could hear Him. And so I say to you, pick up your Bible, listen carefully, and get to work...
