The recession has hit a large portion of people very hard and has forced a reevaluation of finances and how money is now spent. During these times people want to forget their worries and still enjoy entertainment even though they have less money.. There are ways you can trim your entertainment budget but still enjoy your free time and have some fun in this rough times.

Movies

For many people going to see a movie is a big part of their entertainment but during these times it might not be the most affordable option. If you want to see a movie out consider eating a meal before you go to see it so you are not tempted by the expensive snacks in the lobby. Take a can of pop and a small snack with you to have during the movie. Another option is just to rent a movie to watch at home on your T.V. or computer. You don't get the movie theatre experience with movie rentals, but it is less expensive.

DVDs/CDs

Another part of people's entertainment is the purchase of movies and compact music discs. These items add up over time if you are not careful with your spending. Consider cutting back on your purchases and use the internet for music and movies. You can buy single songs that are inexpensive and you don't need to purchase the whole album that might have songs you don't want. If there is a new CD or DVD you want try to buy it when it first comes out as often there are sales on new items.

Cell Phones/Gadgets

While some people do use cell phones and other electronic gadgets for work for many other people these electronic devices are a source of entertainment. These products come with subscriptions and fees that slowly eat away at your savings. If you own one of these products you should consider giving it up to save money. Unless you need a cell phone or other gadget for work they are an expensive that can be easily dropped from your entertainment budget.

Games

Video games are a source of entertainment for many people. These games and especially new ones are very expensive. If you want these in your entertainment budget, shop around for the best prices and try some of the older titles which are less expensive. You can rent newer titles which will save you some money too. Wal-Mart often has a great selection of older video game titles that they are trying to liquidate so you may find some good bargains at those locations.

Alcohol/Parties

Parties and social drinking can be very expensive. If you are throwing a party ask your guests to pitch in and bring their own drinks. You can find party supplies at dollar stores and other discount dealers. Get people attending the party to cook a dish to bring with them too. You can still entertain but if everyone pitches in, your costs are much less.

Shopping

Try shopping for entertainment items at different locations or online. eBay is a great source for many entertainment products such as DVDs and CDs as well as video games. You can often find these items on eBay for a fraction of the retail cost. Try other discount stores and liquidators which may have other entertainment items you are looking for.

You can save money on entertainment and still have fun. Look at ways to save your dollars and do some smart shopping. Sometimes you just need to make some small changes to reap the benefits. Have fun but be sensible too and soon you will be saving more.
