Poetry: Labor Day

by Kurtis Zobell

Created on: May 08, 2009

Labor Day is playing with words, and making words ring

When working with games-and fun word-play

Building a wagon & watching light dance, shine-warm...shimmer and play.

Work is a parents caring & unheard-loving-words, then ever so suddenly....

Ever-so-subtly-work becomes play.

Work is sacrifice-mind-body & soul...

Play is the rewarded joy of returning home from a hard days play...

Don't think like it's work, just make it your day. Let's get to work-there's plenty of time to play.

Don't lie, cheat or steal what is right, I myself tried and it makes for a very-long-night.

Look at the sun, hear the winds howl, watch the birds sing and remove and replace that frown or scowl

Hear your best friends laugh, help them to laugh until we cry. Crying with laughter, now that's good joy...

Working your labor of love while enjoying your work

Loving your work makes a laborious-not-quite-so long of a day.

Love your work, sacrifices are good, enjoy your own labors and let work instead of just play

Whether you catch your own crooks, or serve in the military, both sacrifices are good

And working with words is what-makes-my-day good

Cowboy poets and fair-fire-fighters will say...It's all good, let's start this new day...

You've slept with boots on, you've fired your gun in defense of someone.

You didn't hurt, you never want to kill...

The farmer, the newspaper-delivery-person, it make no matter

Your work is your work when you find what gives you joy.

The preacher, the teacher, that telephone-repari-guy

We all do what we do you enjoy the beautiful-ever-blue-sky.

The Counselor who knows, the Language Arts Teacher

The Principal who knows, just not his own kin.

Respect work, love and sacrifice.

Labor Day is more Sacred to me when it's my labor...

To share my heart, my intent is to love those who sacrifice their own labors

In service to others...is always good labor

To Mother and Nurses and Doctors who care

The labor of love who was born in hospital there

Janitor and cleaner and custodians of kids too

You love what you do and good labours to you

It's my turn-to-quiet, while I read this too

Good nights to newscasters and politiicians too

We'll support your good efforts and criticize too

My mind is tired, my fingers sore, my keys barely carry their score

The pencil worn thin, yet-not-thinner than skin

The Labor Days of Love are worth it all over again...
