Most shoes can be worn with jeans, but some styles looks more stylish than others. In selecting the perfect shoes to partner with your jeans, you should consider the style of your jeans, what you are wearing on your top half, and the overall look you are trying to create.
The following is a brief overview of some of the key do's and don'ts:
Do pair your jeans with loafers-this slip on, but still fairly dressy shoe is perfect to pair with jeans when you are wearing a nice button down shirt. This look is suitable for a wide variety of events.
Don't pair your gym style sneakers with jeans-this look was quite common in the 1990's, but men's fashion has grown up a lot since then. Today, it is associated with a rather sloppy appearance. So unless you're going for a walk, or doing something physical, keep your gyms shoes for the gym.
Do pair street style sneakers with jeans-when it comes to street style sneakers it's an entirely different matter. Think simple suede, or leather look styles with Velcro closures. Alternatively the suede converse lace up street shoe is always a classic that works for many casual looks.
Don't pair dark denim jeans with very light shoes-shoes look much more flattering when their shade compliments the color of the pants. Hence, dark jeans look good with black, or brown shoes. Lighter wash jeans can be worn with lighter shoes.
Do pair jeans with flip flops and sandals-for a casual summer look you can pair many styles of jeans with a basic sandal or flip flop. They look particularly good worn with cropped jeans and a simple t-shirt. If you are wearing full length jeans you'll need to make sure the hem's on your jeans only just brush the ground, otherwise the look will turn sloppy and you'll damage your hems.
Do pair jeans with espadrilles-if you'd like a summer look that's slightly dressier then flip flops, or sandals, espadrilles can work well. They look great with linen or lightweight cotton shirts for a resort feel.
Do wear boat shoes with your jeans-boat shoes and jeans create a casual, yet professional look. Pair boats shoes and jeans with a polo for a classic combination. Boat shoes now come in a wide variety of finishes and the brushed suede styles can look particularly good.
Do pair your jeans with great boots-jeans look great paired with dress or casual ankle boots, just avoid the jeans and work boot combination unless you're actually at work. Chocolate or beige suede boots look great in winter paired back with a suede, leather or cord jacket.
Before leaving the house always take a look at your appearance in a full length mirror. What you wear on your feet impacts on your overall appearance and consequently the impression that you give other people.
