Yes, I certainly believe a sense of humor makes all the difference.
There are times in life when you say things you may later wish you hadn't said however it's your choice to remain humiliated or use the moment for continuous story telling and laughter. I chose the later! This story is absolutely true.
On a cold and frosty winters morning my Husband & I were purchasing flowers about 5.30 AM in the National Flower Centre, the huge flower market here in Melbourne Australia.
We were pretty new there at the time so weren't all that well known at the time. Now let me tell you don't let your defence down there at the marked in front of the blokes if you are a woman. We were at the tropical flower stand and didn't know the blokes very well at all. One of them interrupted my conversation; "but where is your shop exactly"? he asked. He continued; "is it in the Kew Junction?"
"no, no", I quickly answered, "it's at far Kew, far Kew"!
Well you should have seen their laughing faces as they again asked; "where, where? Where is the shop"? Down at far Kew I exclaimed without a thought of why they were all in fits of laughter."far Kew, far Kew" I repeated" as Joe shoved me away from the stand.
Now, let me tell you at the time, I was without doubt the best dressed, most well presented women in the market. Hair all up, wouldn't dream of being seen without make-up on. Good effort for such an early start always! Guess the poor guys couldn't believe I would say such a thing!
My Husband was absolutely furious with me and payed out all the way back to the shop; "oh Jesus, I can't believe you just said that"! he exclaimed.
I kept saying; "I can't understand why your so angry"!?
Joe couldn't believe I didn't know what I had said and I was getting more & more upset with him for being so upset with me. I just didn't get it at all! Personally I can't believe I was so dumb either....must have been one of those "Blond moments"!
When we got back to the shop I rang our male friend who had always interrupted our conversations to ask "but do you mean, kew or far kew"? The clean meaning of "far Kew" is East Kew, meaning simply further east of Kew Junction.
You should have heard him laugh as I abused him and told him how much trouble he had got me into with my dear husband!
Tony Coco, [our friend], couldn't believe I was so dumb either!
Oh well, I'm a good sport so I delight in telling the story!
My guess by blunder has provided a good laugh to many at my expense and perhaps that can be considered good expense filled with positives. It brightened a cold and frosty morning for a start!
