In a city where the beer flows like water and brats are a staple, romance can be difficult to find. Milwaukee has many hidden gems scattered throughout its charming neighborhoods and villages. Many of these restaurants are intimate, unique, and offer the perfect setting for a romantic date. You simply have to know where to look.

Nessun Dorma

This tiny restaurant is tucked away on a corner in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood. Upon entering the restaurant you get the feeling that you have discovered something fantastic. The dim lighting, candles, and moody walls beckon you to enter. Every night they have a new special, featuring fresh, seasonal ingredients. Their menu is small and basic, but includes a variety of paninis and a fantastic appetizers. Purchase the antipasti platter that includes cherry peppers, provolone cheese, kalamata olives, and crusty bread. Splitting this platter along with the special for the evening raises the amount of romance in the meal. The restaurant also has a decent wine list and a variety of micro-brews on tap and in bottles. Did I mention that the two of you can eat here for $40? And that includes drinks.

Caf Brucke

Caf Brucke is an East Side treasure and a restaurant that many people may not even notice because the sign for it is so small and understated. The interior of the restaurant is bright and airy with cozy tables in two adjoining rooms. There is no way that you and your date could not sit close here, so snuggle up and have a look at the menu. You may have guessed from the name of the restaurant that it is a German restaurant, and you would be right! Beers like Spaten Optimator are often on tap, but be careful, it packs a powerful punch. This restaurant also offers nightly specials and has a small menu to help you fill in the gaps of your meal. Somehow, they manage to make their cheese and sausage platter seem romantic, so don't be shy, split one with your date. This is another restaurant that won't put much strain on your wallet. Meals here also run around $40 for two people.

Lake Park Bistro

This is the restaurant that you want to get your significant other to take you to if you have just gotten engaged, are celebrating a birthday, or have reached another anniversary. The restaurant is set on Lake Michigan, the servers manage to be knowledgeable without appearing snooty, and the food will get anyone in the mood for love. Lake Park Bistro is best visited in the evening for dinner if you are looking for a romantic experience. The menu at the Bistro is mainly French. You will have a difficult time deciding what to order at this restaurant, but fear not. You can't possibly order the wrong dish because everything is delicious. Save this restaurant for the most special events of your life. It would be a pity if you would wear it out with overuse.

These are three top choices for a romantic night out in the city of Milwaukee. If French, Italian, and German foods are not what you are looking for, don't be afraid to branch out and explore other restaurants on your own. The city is full of treasures and there is nothing better than feeling like you are the one who discovered them.
