Northern Lights
Cold night air so ripe with promise;
I stand a wooden ladder
to the barn's roof...
there to sit and watch
as Northern Lights dance...
They dip and sway for me,
across a frozen Canadian sky.
Azure blue and Goddess green-
and rhythmic reds that please me,
undulate to the rhythm of the night.
Velvet black sky
and crystal-silver stars
cannot compete-cannot
tease my longing and amazement
from such liquid aural grace.
Cold night air so ripe with promise
fades the frost toward dawn,
leaving my heart to remember,
and live within
those perfect Northern Lights...
