Lindsay Lohan's self-destructive ways

girl just doesn't seem that smart, you know?

The easy answer, I suppose, would be to blame it on the money. But, the problem with that is that money, all by itself, is not corrupting. It is the single minded pursuit of money, at all costs, coupled with a Hollywood culture that thrives upon an insidious lust for power, greed and aggrandizing self promotion that corrupts.

Look, I'm sure there are some decent people in Hollywood. I'm also certain there are likely some moral people there as well. But, it just seems that so many of them live in such a delusional bubble that they are convinced they are far more important than they actually are.

I recently heard comedian Dave Chappelle talk about the dark side of fame, celebrity, power and money. Like Lindsay, Dave began his career at a very young age. And also like Lindsay, he became quite wealthy and financially secure when so many of us are still trying to figure out what we want to do with our lives.

But, unlike Lindsay, it seems, Dave was able to separate truth from fiction and reality from fantasy. Consequently, he chose not to make a deal with the devil and sell his soul to the highest bidder, all in the name of art and entertainment. Apparently, Dave also realized the value of dignity and self respect and chose to look in the mirror and tell himself what he was worth, rather than looking around and asking someone else.

As of yet, Lindsay doesn't seem to have figured this out. Neither has her family, as far as I can tell. But, let's hope, for her sake anyway, that she does. Or, better yet, maybe Dina Lohan, her manager-slash-mom will finally wake up and realize that sacrificing her children at the alter of fame and celebrity will never be enough to satisfy the unquenchable thirst and the insatiable hunger of the gods of narcissism, lust and greed. Not to mention, the high price they demand to sit at their table. I don't know, Dina, you tell me. Is it really worth it?
