The Lonely Tree
The lonely tree stood on the hill
Wishing the hours away.
I saw him from my window
I saw him day by day.
I watched him through a winters snow and ice
And through the days of spring.
I sat beneath him in summer heat
Then watched him stand in loneliness again.
Through the years he'd bud and sleep
In splendour and in solitude.
I found friendship in that lonely tree
In my years of youth.
