Poetry: About me

Woman In The Mirror

Her eyes are sullen
her face sad and gaunt;
who is that lady,
and what does she want?

Each morning I look
she's still looking back;
she sees in my soul,
she must see all the black.

What gives her the right
to take over my face?
I want to be happy
but can't find my place.

She continues to haunt me
and follows me so;
from morning til night,
never letting me go.

She's stronger than me
now that's quite a task;
she lurks deep inside,
underneath my nice mask.

I want to release her
but I don't know quite how;
intertwined with my heart,
it's her new home now.

And though I don't like
the new face that I see;
I must just accept,
it still is - really me.

So, hate her I do
but embrace her I shall;
as I have become her,
my new grief friend, my pal.

Now as I look
in the mirror I see;
two women not one
they have both become me.
