Internet communities

Internet communities are an extension of yourself, so pick one that suits you. All online communities shouldn't have to censor themselves to the lowest common denominator. If they did, all you would have is a community full of Disney characters, which is alright if that's what you want. Most adults want to interact with adult type of things. What is offensive, immoral, or inappropriate to one, just may be what someone else is looking for.

There are places like Myspace and Facebook that are great for friends and family. It's a good place to put up pictures of the family vacation or pictures of your best friends or your favorite pet. Then there are communities like Fubar, MyYearbook, and Tagged that are great for meeting people and the dating scene. But all these places are regulated to some extent as to the content that its members are allowed to post.

I think there should be adult communities where consenting adults can say and post whatever they want. It would be a place where people could talk about their fantasies and post pictures of a sexual nature. Of course when I say they could post anything they want, I mean anything that's not against the law. I'm not saying there shouldn't be any regulations. They shouldn't be able to post things that show people being killed or children being abused. Those are things that go against the laws of our society. That being said, there should be online communities where consenting adults can discuss topics of their choice with like-minded adults.

If you are a person that in real life doesn't like the sight of nudity, you wouldn't go live in a nudist colony. So people that don't like to see things of a sexual nature would just stay on the sites that suit them. Just like if you were watching a TV show that was offensive to you, you would change the channel. Movies and television have a rating system, maybe online communities should have one too. That way before someone logs onto a site, they would know what to expect.

As far as children getting onto these sites, there are age verification systems to prove someone's age. If you have one of these sites on your computer and you're afraid your child will get on it, that's what passwords are for. The Internet is an endless source of information and I don't think it should be censored. Everybody has things that they like and dislike, so if I'm surfing the web, looking for the things I like, and I run across something that I don't like, which isn't much, I'll just click the little red x and make it go away.
