Public transportation should defiantly become free.

Now when I say public transportation I do not mean planes or ferries or even taxis. I am talking about trains and buses. I'll start with buses, they should defiantly become free this would allow less pollution along with a way of transportation for lower class citizens. If natural gas buses, hydrogen or hybrid buses would be used this would decrease the amount of carbon dioxide released into the air dramatically. There are about 250 million cars in America and each car produces approximately 5.2 metric tons of carbon dioxide, then in total that add up to 1 billion 300 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. This number is still rising and at some point in the near future we will hit a moment where we will be in a extreme crisis and we will act then. I think we should just act now and allow public transportation and hopefully take a few thousand of those cars off the road.

Another issue is the lower class citizens. As I said earlier their are 250 million cars in America, but their are 300 million people living in America, how does that work? Their are about 50 million people who don't own cars, or more ( due to some people owning more then one car) . Free public transportation would allow all of these people a way to travel and live their daily lives it may also allow them to travel farther in search of a job, and due to that it could change their status.

A benefit that would also come with having thousands of cars off the road would be that their would be less traffic. Don't you hate trying to cross the street in downtown ( any large city ) and waiting for 5 minutes by every block for the cross walk to be free of cars. If you took only 200 cars off the road in every city and added 25 buses that would free up a lot of space for you to walk at your leisure.

It is somewhat clear that planes, taxis or ferries should not become free simply due to the expense of them but in their place a substitute should be put in for those who can not afford a taxi or plane. The substitute for a taxi is a bus, but what is a substitute for a plane? Their can be more then one answer but international trains may be the most efficient. International trains have already been made but lost a lot of popularity due to the faster plane coming out. Trains are not cheap either for example a round trip train ride from Munich Germany to Rome Italy can cost well over 120 dollars. A lot of this price is due to the luxury that these trains provide, but I think that if the train was changed so that the rooms were smaller the meals more basic they could make trains free or at a much lower price.

Public transportation, or mass transit, should be free. Not free of cost to riders but free from government interference

Free public transport? That is an oxymoron if ever there was one. If the user does not pay, where will the funding come from
