Birthdays mean very different things for a child than it does for a parent. A child is excited as to what the next year will hold. Children are always anxiously awaiting their special day and are ready to move on to the next year of their life. Parents on the other hand, are often sad to see their child age and mature. While proud of their growth and development, the rate at which their child is growing is always too fast and the older the child is, the faster the time seems to pass. A thoughtful note in a birthday card is the perfect way to hang onto the memories of that year, for both the parents and the child. There are many things a parent may want to include:

* A funny anecdote or quote from your child is worthy of being frozen in time and documented for them to recall later.
* Retell of milestones they have achieved in the last year.
* You should also mention your child's hopes for the future, as well as your hopes for them.
* Writing how your child has affected your life in a positive way and the joy they have brought others makes for a nice sentiment.
Every child is unique and special. A birthday is your child's special day to stand out in the spotlight. All the focus is on them. As time passes, cakes, balloons and even the presents are forgotten, but a card with a special note from you can be held onto forever. The magic of childhood only lasts so long and capturing these moments for your child will allow them to recall that magic at any age.
Do not feel slighted if your child does not seem to appreciate your thoughts at that moment. Birthdays are pretty hectic for the guest of honor.
