The links between tarot suits and astrological elements

The four astrological elements represent that which comprises the secular aspects of the world. Meanwhile, the four suits in a deck of tarot cards represent four basic and essentially universal aspects of human life. Therefore, since we are born from the world - existing both through and as the same elements plus spirit - a parallel may be drawn between each suit and each element. When consulting a psychic for a tarot card reading, keep your astrological element (or elements, as the case may be with those born on cusps) in mind as the cards are laid before you.

The elements of Western astrology are fire, air, water and earth. Each element is represented in three signs. The fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Aquarius, Libra and Gemini are air signs. The water signs are Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio. Virgo, Taurus and Capricorn are earth signs. Furthermore, each element embodies various personality traits and tendencies.

Air represents, among other traits, logic, objective empathy and abstract thoughts. Air elements tend to be thinkers, possessing a wealth of ideas both obscure and concrete. They can often be counted on to settle an argument without bias and are natural born ombudsmen.

Water embodies the aspects of emotion, compassion and vulnerability. These people are lovers always and fighters rarely. They have uncannily strong parenting and nurturing instincts.

Lastly, earth stands for practicality, stability and the material. Earth elements are not necessarily materialistic, though they tend to focus on maintaining their material well-being. They tend to be body-conscious and well aware of their finances and assets.

The four tarot elements are swords, cups, wands and pentacles. Pentacles rarely appear in pop-cultural references, most likely due to the inaccurate Satanic stigma behind the symbol. Respectively, they are also sometimes referred to as blades or athames, chalices or goblets, rods or staves, and discs or coins. For simplicity's sake, they will henceforth be referred to by the originally stated names.

The swords suit is one of challenges and observation and is associated with the winter. Just
