The perfect Mother's Day breakfast is one that is served in bed; the perfect Mother's Day brunch is one that she doesn't have to make, serve, or clean up for, and it doesn't mean that she has to leave the house either. Total cooperation, with the father at the helm, if the children are little, is what the household needs. If the children are older, they need to set their alarm and get out of bed, and want to make their mother happy, but going out of their way.
Brunch, as noted in restaurants consists of breakfast and dinnner foods, complete with a carving station for the turkey, ham, and roast beef. At home, the word can simply mean a big breakfast that is late morning, a combination of breakfast and lunchtime. The two best dishes that can be made the night before is an egg dish and a french toast one. The egg dish can be made in Corning Ware and prepared the night before, using bacon or sausage and cheese, complete with heavy cream and scrambled eggs. In the morning, merely put it in the oven to warm up. It is a type of casserole, and made to perfection. I can almost smell it in the oven! Mmmmm!
The other one is a french toast dish, which is different from the usual way of making it. The night before, sliced Italian bread is place in a glass pan, with, not maple syrup, but rather Karo syrup. Mix vanilla and syrup, with a little nutmeg into the egg mixture that is poured over the bread and Karo syrup. It is a delicious dish that everyone will rave about!
Another nice thing to consider is to set the table pretty with new placemats, that will be mom's gift, or have breakfast in the dining room, if you have one. You will feel as if you are in a restaurant, whether brunch is in the kitchen or in the dining room, as long as there are fresh flowers on the table. Also, just like a restaurant, make sure that you are the waitress and clean up after the meal, just as a server does that when your mother is dining out.
Let her enjoy Mothers' Day and the brunch that you provide. You might also put out "favors" at every place, so she will feel as if she is at a party. What better way to end the meal, than with various choices of teas; she will feel as if she is at a very feminine tea room or at a tea party of yesterday, when she probably had pretend parties with you. Allow her to shed a few tears happiness, for that is what mothers do. Treat her special and enjoy planning that holiday brunch! Appreciate the mother of your children, especially on this day, but it would even mean more, if the children went out of their way on this holiday, and did something nice, for the woman that does everything for them! They will watch you, and how you treat their mother, and what they do, will follow your good example!
