Increasing your chances of pregnancy

Year after year, over five million American couples struggle with infertility. Infertility defines a couple who is unable to conceive after one year of trying. Current population trends may suggest that the majority of couples have no trouble conceiving. However, a significant portion still finds themselves battling each month in the hopes of getting pregnant. While our sisters, cousins, mothers and friends share stories of how surprised they were to find themselves pregnant, the rest of us sit, quietly frustrated.

Some couples travel the arduous fertility journey for years before discovering a diagnosis. Hearing that diagnosis can become a double-edged sword. On one hand there is something concretely, quantifiably blocked the way to that which you yearn for most. On the other hand, a medical diagnosis provides an answer, a set of options, medications, or procedures to try. Most of these couples will find their wishes fulfilled with the use of fertility medications such as clomid, milophene or serophene, while a small number may require surgery.

Then there are the rest of us strong, healthy, and theoretically fertile. Sperm counts are high; we ovulate like clockwork, take the right vitamins and abstain from alcohol. We try month after month, hoping against all odds that it is going to happen this time. Medically there is nothing wrong. However, we find our bodies incapable of conceiving.

The mystery of why some couples conceive quickly while others must endure years of trying, temping, taking pills and investing in therapies, may remain a mystery for some time. Thankfully, medical research is beginning to look more and more in our direction. The resulting evidence suggests a variety of diet and lifestyle choices, which may positively affect fertility. The following list of natural ways to boost fertility may indeed boost your chances of trying to conceive. Natural, health enhancing, and risk free these easy changes are certainly worth a shot.

When time and patience fail, the next reasonable step is tracking ovulation. Ovulation generally occurs in the middle of a woman's menstrual cycle. Though every woman is unique, the average cycle is 28 days long. The first day of a woman's cycle is considered the first day of her period. Thus, it makes sense that the last day of a woman's cycle is the day before her next period begins. Though 28 days is average, some women have cycles of 27, 29, 30, or even 32 days. The length of a woman's cycle is not a huge concern
