Let's start with the basics. I'll "get to hell" shortly. Are we a creation or an evolutionary accident?
So you think we evolved, and you believe in a higher being? Then you have three mysteries to solve. Without any physical evidence or scientific repeatability you accept that through millions of mutations we developed a consciousness of our existence, a sense of emotion, and ability to love and hate? I won't even touch on the complexity of our bodies and the rest of the natural world.
The second mystery is how God came to be. Since God wouldn't be much of a god if we mortals understood him, I'll live with this mystery.
The third mystery is the function of God in the universe. Please don't say that God helped creation along somehow. No serious evolutionist assigns any function to a higher being at any stage of the development of the universe. Tying God and evolution together is just a means of refusing to reconcile the obvious fact that the universe is just too complicated to be random; hurricanes don't turn debris into cars and airplanes. They never will.
I know the theory of macroevolution* is so deeply engrained in modern thought it may be asking a lot for some to let go of it. But if I can get you to accept that we were designed just like the infinitely simpler things that mankind invented then it is too obvious to state; there must be a designer.
The designer is above its creation, always. The created doesn't understand the creator. Fortunately, we don't have to sort through a lot of prospects that claim to be the creator. Buddha didn't claim to be God. Mohammad certainly didn't claim to be God. Jesus Christ is the only person in all of history that made any credible claim to being as one with the creator.
Christ's claim is validated by pre-Christian history. The Jews looked for a Messiah long before the birth of Christ. They didn't make this notion up. It came from God's prophets whose writings and teachings also predate the Christ's birth by centuries. These writings and teachings are recorded in the Bible. Nearly all of the prophets and apostles died because of their faith in the teachings of the Old and New Testament. We know this because of the eyewitness accounts in the New Testament, the secular historical record of the time and the self condemnation of the Jews by the Jews in the Old Testament.
Volumes have been written supporting validation of the Bible as historically accurate. So let me "get to hell". Hell is clearly mentioned in the Bible. Men can seek to discover the true meaning of the Bible, or they can try to make it fit their preconceived ideas. I will pursue seeking the true meaning. If we reject the recorded teaching of the only man that made a credible claim to being a deity, we create God in our own image. We reject the historical writings. We just reason out of our own very finite wisdom. So yes, if the Bible says there is a hell I believe there is a hell. If you think the references are symbolic, in the name of reason please know why you think they are symbolic. But don't reject them simply because you cannot understand why there is a hell. God just might have a reason that you missed.
*Let's make a distinction between macro and micro evolution. Macro evoluation is dead things like carbon and water turning into living things, ameba's turning into human being after billions of random events. This is nothing but a theory and not science because it can't be verified, it can't be reapeated and there is no physical evidnece. Microevolution on the other hand is scientifically verifiable. People can grow taller from one generation to the next, dogs noses can become shorter.
