Introduction
Distance learning is growing as a popular choice to receive an education without actual being in a physical classroom. Teachers and students can communicate by print, television, telephone, online or through other technological means. This method of learning is becoming more main stream every day. According to the Sloan Consortium over 96% of major universities offered online distance learning (The Sloan Consortium, 2006).
The purpose of this report is to analyze the pros and cons of distance learning. This is to help potential distance learning students decide whether this is good choice for them. I will present research from online sources and a first hand interview with a distance learning student. I will first present the positive elements then I will present the negative items. I will also present first hand testimony from a distance learning student. In the conclusion I will summarize my report and make recommendations.

Cost: With no travel this can be a savings. This can help those on a tight budget or with limited access to transportation.
Schedule: Distance learning students can set their own schedule. This can be very helpful for those with busy works schedules or family obligations. Learning can be done at almost any hour of the day.

This can also provide an expanded opportunity to learn about subjects or take courses not offered locally.

Competition: Less face-to-face competition and school work is based on merit. There is decreased chance of work be judged by sex, race, religion or political views. All work stands up on its own.
Flexible Deadlines: This can be for those who may find themselves constantly behind or even for those that are fast learners. There is less pressure to complete work.
Cons
Face-to-face interaction: This can be cumbersome given the distance between students and instructors. It can be a challenge if someone needs personalized attention.
Learning style: For those who learn better with visual
