As a twenty six year old woman, I focused time more on my three year old son, working, and my social life. I knew the 2008 presidential election would be an important one, and stepped up to learn more about politics. The more I learned about both candidates, the more I realized how important it is to speak up for what you believe. The issues facing America today were closer to home than I previously thought, and it mattered more than ever to choose a politician who would lead this country to a better place for us all.
When choosing who to vote for, I noticed many things. Obama was out in front. He could always be seen speaking his mind in an articulate, and respectful manner. He seemed to speak from his heart, and didn't seem to care if people found him brash. He seemed to truly mean what he was saying to us, and I began to trust him as a leader. However, McCain was really thrown into the background by his running mate Governor Palin. I quickly lost interest in learning more about McCain because he seemed to be a person who wouldn't fight for this country as necessary. He would speak his opinion when asked, but not with the confidence and heart behind it like Obama.
Watching the election on TV, I felt like this country spoke loudly. We chose the leader who would fight for us, not at us. Someone who would not only promise changes, but work to make them happen. Obama in this past 100 days, has stepped into the presidency and put his foot down. President Obama has definitely made me proud of my decision to vote for him. The steps that he has taken so far to make America a more prosperous, and healthy nation are succeeding. The issues facing us will become less of a burden. Although many changes have been set in place already, Obama also is honest with us, letting us know that we still have far to go. He assures us of the steps the government has taken in the positive direction, but does not give us a false sense of hope. He continues to work for change on our behalf in many areas, and I have faith that he will continue into the future. A president's job is never done, and the work is never easy. Having a hardworking, honest president like Obama makes the fight for a better tomorrow worth while and lets us know he is there for us all the way. All of us are entitled to so many things such as access to a good education, safe living conditions and health care. This country can be anything and everything we dream of with Obama at the wheel.
