Through his wife, Joan Conner, I was told about a man with a big heart and a little extra time on his hands who helped give some children a special Christmas last year. His name is Coleman Conner. About six months ago he was reading one of his usual magazines that he liked to read and saw an ad in it for these wooden wheels and axles. Which inspired him to start making wooden cars and pick-up trucks to give out to children that he knew did not have much and could use an extra toy for Christmas.
He started out just making wooden cars and pick-up trucks out of wood then after talking to some of the boys at their church, who's dads drove a big truck to make a living, he went on to making big trucks with trailers out of wood along with the wooden cars and pick-up trucks he was already making.
Coleman told me that he always loved working with wood and wanted to do something for the children, so this gave him a chance to help make these children have a better Christmas. He went through some medical problems in 2007 that by the grace of God he lived through and has given him the free time to make these special little wooden toy truck and cars.
I also learned that it was a Christmas miracle that Coleman even got the chance to make these toys because the doctors said that he would not even make it out of the hospital alive when he got sick in 2007. Everyone believed that he would die there in that hospital except for his wife, who kept praying and believing that his time was not up yet. Now he too believes that he got a second chance to do something good for other.
Coleman and his wife of many years enjoy helping others in our little town and I believe that they both are very special people with big hearts who are trying to make a difference in life. You see these wooden toys are very special cause they brought some children a Christmas who really needed one, and they gave Coleman a chance to help make someone have a better Christmas.
I wanted to write this cause it really does make a difference in a child's life to know that someone cares enough to let them hold on to the magic of opening a present on Christmas morning. You see when I was young there was ten of us kids and we were very poor so we learned at a very young age that there was no Santa and we were lucky to have a Christmas meal. So to see someone care enough to help children have a special time at Christmas is very special to me. I too, try to help keep the magic of Christmas alive in every way I can by helping others and showing my own children the true meaning of Christmas. Because even tho we were very poor we gave thanks to God and was happy to have our family there with us to celebrate.
