There are many advantages of working from home. It's important that anyone contemplating a change from working in an office for someone else to working at home for that same employer or to working from home in a self-employment capacity, carefully consider all the advantages and disadvantages. Here are some of the advantages. Weigh carefully that the opposite can also be true and make the decision that is best for you.

1. When working from home, you can make your own schedule. If you are working for yourself from home, this might be true provided that the nature of your business doesn't follow a particular time frame. It is a wonderful thing to be on your own time. If you are so inclined, you can work in the evening or the middle of the night and have your days free to run errands, play with the kids, visit with friends, shop, etc. The only thing you have to do to ensure that this works is be sure you put enough hours into your business and do a good job.

2. The freedom of scheduling doesn't always work when you are working for someone else because they may have a different idea about the hours you should keep. Since they are paying you, it's probably wise for you to keep the hours they outline for you. That doesn't mean that you can't find some scheduling advantages from working from home. For example, you can save that commute time and roll out of bed at the start of work instead of an hour or so earlier.

3. Another advantage of working from home is that you won't need the elaborate wardrobe that you do when going to the office. This will save you money. I will also save you shopping time and all the angst about what to wear to work.

4. Working from home also will save you lunch money as your kitchen is right there. No need to go out to lunch everyday.

5. Some people think that working from home will help them save because they can watch their children at the same time. This is not a good idea and usually doesn't work. You may save some money because you don't need as much child care, but you'll need some. During the hours that you are working, you'll need someone to look after the children. It's just not possible to do both and do both well.

6. You may miss the friendships of work, but you will also gain in working in the environment of your dreams where you can create an environment where you creativity can flourish. This is a definite advantage of working from home.
