How online dating profiles can be deceiving

Lets face it when looking for that special someone we put the best foot forward. But, just how honest is the person you are considering online. That is the whole problem in a nut shell, honesty. While online dating services advertised on TV promise the best matches due to some formula they have created, how much can you really trust them? Here are a few thoughts on this subject:

In reality you never know if the person your contemplating is the upstanding citizen they claim to be, or a criminal in prison. You have no way of telling if, they are male or female. Mean while you may have traded information that sets you up for a big let down, or worse.

Anyone can look up names to Universities and Colleges and claim to have attended there, or have claims to working for a major corporation. They can also go the other way by avoiding personal information to hide or protect who they really are.

The personal profile can be used to hide character flaws, or give a glowing description of a person who does not exist. Depending on their mood and state of mind at the time he or she created the profile the out come can be totally different each time they create a new profile.

How many people say they love long walks on the beach, yet they have never even seen the beach. Which brings us to another point. How much real life experience does this person have for the activities they claim. Liking or loving the idea of doing a particular activity is often far removed from the reality of it.

There is so much grey area involved in these online profiles, to claim a political affiliation does not show the true depth of your leanings towards one party over another. How far would this person go to see their chosen politician reach office. The same goes for religion, to say your spiritual leaves a lot of ground open for debate.

Ethics and morals are another issue that can be viewed differently from one person to the next. This person may in their mind think of themselves as open minded but are they really. They may portray themselves as environmentally friendly as they drop a candy wrapper on the ground, or improperly dispose of hazardous materials.

Age is another issue that many try to avoid or down-play. Claims of working out or exercising regularly may be over exaggerated to say the least. Some peoples idea of staying fit is walking to the frig for another beer. You never see ads for men or women saying they look much older than they really are.

Online dating profiles can be a useful tool in finding a new love interest, however, caution should be taken when selecting the one that seems right for you.
