Getting Started with Blogging
Blogs open up an exciting world to individuals and corporate entities, allowing users a more personal experience. Individuals also use blogs to reach out and discuss niche interests and provide commentary on trends as they evolve. If you have never looked at blogs before, you are missing out on a wealth of information and colorful commentary. Who knows, you could even make a profit from starting your own blog! Before using this exciting technology, you should take a moment to familiarize yourself with the different blogging software available as well as the different methods of communication you can use to broadcast your message.
Deciding what to blog about
Different people blog about different things. You will want to take time to figure out what unique issue you would like to discuss. Ask yourself a few questions to help figure out the goals of your blog:
Are you starting a blog for personal or promotional purposes?
Do you want to discuss an ongoing topic in depth or provide commentary on an industry or broad group of trends?
Would you like to video blog your experiences and show the world?
Do you have pictures that you would like to turn into albums for family and friends?
Are you a small or larger company looking to reach out to your market by providing them insight into what you do?
Do you need to organize your blog into a hierarchy of pages or will you simply post articles?
Would you like to attempt to generate ad revenue from your blog?
Depending on the answers to these questions, and your skill level, you can quickly decide which software is best for you. For people who want personal blogs to display their artwork, or have a clean layout for displaying video blogs, Blogger is an excellent choice. Blogger accommodates a wide array of widgets and boasts a very user friendly interface. Blogger is a subdomain only blog run through Google. As a whole, it is best suited for users looking to very quickly post and edit entries. Because it is a Google product, Blogger can quickly sync up with analytics and adsense for stat tracking and revenue possibilities.
More advanced users will want to use Wordpress. With its variety of layouts and many customizable options and sections, Wordpress is the number one choice for people looking to get the most out of their blog. Wordpress allows you to build separate pages to expand different sections of your blog, and even features a built in stat tracker.
