There are a number of places to volunteer in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. When you become a volunteer, you are giving back to the community. Although you do not receive a monetary payment for your services, helping out the community will provide richer rewards.

The River Legacy

The River Legacy provides a number of ways individuals can volunteer their services. The center has a number of events that happen on a monthly basis. For the majority of the events, the volunteers will participate in the set-up and break down various activities. In some instances, the volunteers will help facilitate the events. The term "facilitate" is used because the activities are geared at helping the children use their critical thinking abilities to work on the projects. Some of the events include Migratory Bird Day, Global Youth Services Day, Cardboard Boat Regetta, and assisting in the science center. The River Legacy is located in Arlington, TX.

Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club offers opportunities for mentorship. An individual can become a big brother or sister to a child in the organization. Individuals can also volunteer to assist in programs such as Education and Careers, Character and Leadership Development, and Sports and Fitness. Volunteers can assist in educational needs if they are qualified. The children who attend the organization are always pleased to see volunteers because the volunteers are taking a special interest in their lives. Some of children come from single parent homes or do not have older siblings to look up to for guidance. The Boys and Girls Club has several locations in the Metroplex.

Battered Women's Shelter

There are a number of women and children that undergo violence on a regular basis. Shelters are located in various locations to assist families in need. Individuals can volunteer in a number of ways: assist in clerical work, help organize monthly activities, and assist on the hotlines. Volunteers can the women improve their resumes, help them polish their interview skills, and help them boost their self esteem by providing makeovers.

Animal Shelters

Animal lovers can provide their services in one of the local animal shelters. A volunteer can help groom the animals, walk the animals, and feed the animals. Some individuals may even choose to become a foster parent to some of the animals. Pets need love and attention as do humans. There are a number of shelters that are in need of volunteers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

There are a variety ways individuals can assist in our community. Whether you enjoy nature or assisting individuals there is something out there for you.
