Have you been thinking about having a baby after your tubes have been tied, or are you maybe one of the women who became pregnant after having them tied? Pregnancy after tubal litigation is possible in both scenarios. Breaking edge technology has greatly helped reduce the chances of pregnancy without a reversal but it is still reported, although chances are very slim. For those wanting to have another child after this procedure, your chances may vary depending on your age, health, ect.
Tubal reversal, also known as TR is less expensive than what it used to be and the chances of becoming pregnant are much higher. However, it greatly depends on the length of the tubes after TR is performed. A reversal is not a guarantee of pregnancy. The likelihood of an eptopic pregnancy, (pregnancy within the tubes) is somewhat slightly elevated after a TR but is not very common.
Another factor that plays in to the success rate is how your tubal was performed. There are various ways to perform the procedure. These are the cutting, tying, or burning of the tubes. Physicians are less likely to just "tie" tubes because the odds of becoming pregnant after a tubal. Cutting and burning, or a combination of any of the three are more common. If you have had this kind of tubal, TR is still relatively successful.
The chances of becoming pregnant are greater if you are under the age of 35. Being over the age of 35 does not mean that you won't conceive after a tubal reversal, just that your chances lower as you age, the same as they would otherwise. Some women may still have to utilize fertility drugs or treatments, even after having TR. Keep in mind though, this is the exception not the rule.
After your tubal reversal is complete, the physician will then check to see how much tube you have left. This will aid them in determining your chances for pregnancy. Do not expect to get pregnant immediately after. This is rare because your body has to adjust and your menstual cycle may become irregular. If this occurs it is generally very temporary and the doctor may prescribe medications to help you regulate.
Before considering tubal reversal you should talk with your obgyn and get a regular checkup, just to be on the safe side. He or she may be able to recommend a reputable physician in your area. Tubal reversal is typically a safe procedure, but as with any type of medical intervention, there may be risks.
