Poetry: The American flag

by Annette Bromley

Created on: May 04, 2009

I AM YOUR FLAG

Look at me and recognize

Exactly who I am,

I am the banner flying over you.

I represent your land.

I am all American

And I represent you,

The people of this Nation,

My colors, red, white and blue.

I am the sentinel of freedom,

I fly proudly day and night

The emblem of your Country

Oft battered for your right

To worship and speak freely

To live without fear,

free from want and oppression,

don't let your enemies tear

me from you and steal the things

that we in our hearts hold dear,

all the good that we have fought for

for more than 200 years.

I am your flag

Your Country's banner

flown at Valley Forge,

around the world,

now in Iraq;

I've seen you through every battle

and been to the moon and back.

I am your flag;

the bulwark of peace and freedom

for all of mankind,

the stars and stripes "Old Glory"

flying proudly over this great land of mine.

I am your Flag,

look at me and recognize

exactly who I am,

I am the banner flying over you.

I represent your land.
