Is our society really free of gender bias? My topic is about the reasons why women quit their jobs. I found it interesting to put it under this title as somewhere down the line, the gender biased society influence her to make this decision. Read it to know more.
Why women quit their jobs?
Have you thought about it? Or is the topic ignored like the subject is. Truly this could be heart-breaking and depressing for the person who is dwelling in it. But this article could also be an encouraging factor while "decision making" and also to think twice before any decision is made.
You ask any woman why she quit her job, and her answer would mostly be one of the below.
1) Voluntarily: A woman quits voluntarily if she is content in life and wants to do one task at a time and take things lightly. Wants to enjoy the present and hope for a better future. This is the person with "Live life to the fullest" attitude.
2) Kids: Most women understandably quit their job after having a part of them, that is their baby. Most of the mothers find full time job as a "negligence" towards their child and choose to opt-out of work life. The feeling is to give complete attention and to be the best nurturing mom. This is the person who wants to be the "best-mom" and is less career-driven.
3) Marriage: In most countries even today, women quit their high profile job after marriage. The domestic chores would overpower the work life responsibilities. The family pressure, objections and expectation of her sacrifice, forces a woman to quit job only to focus on family needs. This is the person who is suppressed by the family and has less voice of her own.
4) Husband's job: Here is another fact. To be bound to the family and keep it intact, a woman quits her job to follow the footsteps of her husband whose work-life is highly dynamic. The dynamism can be travel, work hours, social obligations, relocation, and may be frequent job-change itself. This is the person who has given less importance to herself and her career.
5) Work harassment\ethics: Certain women who appear "non-blending" type according to the group in work-life, feel the difference in people's attitude towards her, who frequently faces kind of emotional harassment and decides to quit. She may do a wonderful job though. This is the person who is best at job and less social oriented.
6) Back to school: Though the number could be small, but not ignored, the "back-to-school" has also been a reason for women to quit. In this case, the women unsatisfied with the pay or nature of work or future security or be it anything, are willing to risk the current stability and take a jump to reach the unforeseen destination. These are the women with "can-do" attitude and willing to take risks to be profitable in the end.
7) Health issues: Unfortunately, some women are forced by nature to attend to their health and quit jobs. The individual health of a person demands her to opt-out of her work-life. An appreciative number of women try to deal and cope with the situation and find alternatives. This is the person who is being pushed down by nature. How much a woman can tolerate, decides her stay at work-life.
8) Travel: Though the number might be negligible, there are women that do not really rely on their earnings. The earnings that they make is like "bonus" or "extra". They have inherited enough to sustain a lifetime. Such women may decide to quit and hope to rejoin the work-life, to take advantage of the inherited money and travel the world around. This is the person who wants to temporarily "take a break" and care less about the already secure future.
9) Less stressed alternative: Some women who find their current job extremely stressful choose to opt-out of the stressed life, only to hope to begin an alternative self-reliant job that is less inclined to "schedule". This is the person, who likes to take control of life by deciding to do what she likes and do it when she likes.
10) Take-a-break: Some women would take a break of work-life and maybe rejoin after the rejuvenation and start the career afresh. This is a person who believes in "breaks" between work to further focus on tasks.
The above points are the briefing of my ideas about "why women quit their jobs". There could be various other reasons too. I finally believe a woman should continue to do what she likes best, and if that generates a financial line to the home-front, why not? And when she does what she likes, she also gets best in her daily chores and responsibilities. Whoever said it "Women are better in multitasking", said it right, alright!
