How to teach preschoolers to read

Teaching preschoolers to read could be the most challenging part of a teacher's job as a teacher. The children are too young and teaching them how to read is a tough job. Not only will the teacher teach them to read but also she has to keep them interested in what she is trying to teach them do. Before starting to teach the children to read, it is important to introduce to them the reading materials. The interest of children in reading materials will make them have interest in reading.

Here are the easy steps to teach preschoolers to read:

Start with the alphabet. Before a child could learn to read, the child must know first the alphabets. Always start with the memorization of the alphabet. That way they will know what composes a word.Teach the sounds of the alphabet. It is important to teach the sound of the alphabet to the child because it is here that they will learn how to read. The sound will make them relate to the words that they will soon be reading later.Teach the syllables. Once the children have perfected their alphabet sound. The teacher could start teaching the children to read the syllables. Make sure that the children know how to associate the consonant sounds with the vowel sounds in order to be able to read the syllable. Sounding of the letters will teach the children to associate the sounds which will help them to better understand how the syllables are read.Introduce the CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant). An example of the CVC word is cat-. Once the children have learned how to read the syllables, it would be easy for them to add another consonant and read the word. Always let the children read the first syllable. For example if you want to let the children read the word mat- then you have to write ma and let them read the syllable then add letter t and let them read the word. Children will see the association of the sounds and how words are formed with this reading technique. If they know their sounds then there is no reason why they cannot read CVC words.Teach the children the picture-word association. Attach the picture to the word then let the children read the word. The children will learn how to read better if there are pictures as guides.Do the read and repeat technique. This is a technique where the teacher reads the word then the children will repeat after the teacher. Make it a constant practice to train the children to improve their sight reading.Practice. There is no better way to teach reading to preschoolers than constant practice. Always set a time for the children to read.

Teaching reading to preschoolers is hard but done the proper way it could be less stressful and more fulfilling. If the children know how to read they will start to scan books and try to read the words themselves. That will help them a lot to develop their reading skills.
