After watching several seasons of Real World, especially after seeing Puck self-destruct, I promised myself that I would never watch the show again.
Thankfully, I broke my promise with Real World Brooklyn. Seeing Chet and Ryan become friends was worth watching the whole season of insane pranks. Watching Katelynn and JD is a whole different thing. I am all for people expressing their individuality. While I admire the way Scott helped everyone learn kitchen etiquette, it seems a little too drastic to put a huge pet rat in Devyn's bed in order to get her to stop playing her boyfriends.
Katelynn's courage in doing the show so soon after her surgery is amazing. Getting thrown around and squished by Scott was even more amazing! The bond between Scott and Katelynn that formed after Scott gave her the $1500 check was really touching. What was the problem with Ryan and Chet trying to make Katelynn feel guilty about spending the cash in Las Vegas? Scott had already told Katelynn that the money was a gift.
Sarah's encounter with her father is just too painful to think about for me. When parent's divorce, there should be a mediator for the children so that the children do not spend the rest of their lives trying to rip apart their DNA to separate themselves from the evil parent. Nothing on earth could be worth the condemnation of one parent so that the other parent can maintain the high moral ground. Especially if they chose to have a child.
JD had to have some courage as well in order to let the world know about his sexual preference, and about his own evil parent agony. The most painful problem that can happen is to see the victim of violent behavior become self-destructive. JD's alcohol abuse has no redeeming value. Maybe there is some value in being open about one's life experiences. But abusing alcohol for any reason is just too insane, especially if it causes violence.
I love to save the best for last :) Baya Voce, what a wonderful friend! The breakup of Ryan and his girlfriend could have added another burden to Ryan's call back to Iraq. For Baya to show her love for Ryan under these circumstances was a act of valor. What more could anyone ask. What Ryan believed about his own duty to serve in the military could be considered an act of valor as well. It would be awesome to see Baya and Ryan have children :)
I really hope the members of Real World Brooklyn heal themselves, and become the kind of people they hope to be. This season in some ways has been more painful than Puck's bruised shins. At least Chet had some dreams come true for his career goals. And Baya has done some of the DJ work she hoped to do. Sarah seems to be on her way to a loving marriage. I cannot imagine what Katelynn and JD will be conjuring up in their future :)
