The issue of having your child wanting to learn drums is probably one of the most feared things for parents. The drums, at first, will sound like garbage and they will just ruin your ears. They will be nothing but noise to you, nothing but loud. The instrument doesn't come with an amp that you can turn up or down so there is no control over the volume and, being a kid, they will want to beat the drums really hard and that will make it even louder. So when your child comes up to you and says that they want to play the drums don't run away in fear just follow the instructions that I am going to share with you.
First, really find out if they will stick to playing the drums instead of them just going through the phase of playing and throwing them out in a week or a month. If they really want to play and will play through the times where they think that they suck and they don't sound good then it is time to get them drums. Now, do not go out and buy some really expensive set of drums that have everything because they won't be using it all at the beginning. Keep it simple.
When you go to buy the kit think about what your child wants to play. What kind of music does your child listen to? Once you figure this out then you will find out what kind of kit to get or at least an idea. Talk to the people at the stores to find out what they think your child should use. One really great option is to get them an electric drum kit. These kits cost no more than the regular ones and then you have the control over volume. It is a great way for your child to learn without ruining your ears.
The best thing that you could probably do is to encourage them to get started in playing an instrument, whether or not it be drums or guitar or piano, you should always encourage them to play music. Music helps children to recognize patterns and it helps them with math. Music is a great think for any child to be a part of. You should reward your child for their interest in music. So, whether it be drums or not try to get them into playing and encourage them to do so. Your support will help them. If you can afford lessons, why not help them out? If you can't, why not get them some books to help them learn? Music is essential for children. And, if you are worried about the volume and the size of a regular drum kit then get the electric drum kit, they don't cost any more then the other kits and they work just as well.
