The pros and cons of working in a call center

Experience in a call center environment is significantly different from some other jobs that you may have heard of.

Pros:-
~ You hardly feel tired physically, since you are in a closed, office environment most of the time. Your mouth is your tool for survival.
~ Opportunities to communicate with people from various backgrounds and all walks of life.
~ No fixed work. If you are not on the line, you have free time to be doing other leisure things while waiting for calls. That of course depends on which line you are in on the job as well, for example, customer service as compared to sales.

Cons:-
~ Long working hours. A mental constraint. Usually involve shift work as many call centers have open communication lines 24/7.
~ Mundane job tasks. What you are doing is picking up, talking, and putting back down the phone over and over again.
~ Customer problems. Not everyone that is on the line with you will be a pleasant experience. For instance, customers that call in with problems are usually the ones that are aggitated, frustrated and of course upset at times as well. Not only do you have to pacify/sooth them to solve their problems, but most of the time, subject to their verbal abuse is unavoidable.
