Our eyes are our window to the outside world. Without our eyesight we would be living in a complete world of darkness. Everyone knows that our eyesight starts to weaken with age, however in the modern age even the young children appear to need help to correct their vision. Over the course of your lifetime you will realize that more people are needing vision aides than they ever did before, and the one of the main contributors to that may be our changed lifestyles. The modern day diet, lack of exercise as well as rest, including overdependence on technology such as televisions and computers make our visions worse. Your eye health is connected to your overall well being. Using an individualized approach based on the following simple steps may help you improve your vision.
Sleep: Rest is very important for all parts of our body. The eyes along with rest of the body, feel refreshed after 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Tired eyes tend to lose focus. If you are working a lot on computer or watching TV a lot, then you will realize that your eyes get tired and weak. One way to rest your eyes will be using a palming technique (Hatha Yoga). Rub your palms together vigorously to generate heat, and place them lightly on your closed eyes. Repeat it multiple times for couple of minutes. Blinking for a few minutes will also help relax your eyes.
Green: Color green is soothing and good for your eyes. Taking walks in woods, or looking at greenery around you may help improve your vision. Many older folks, including my grandfather would severe that their vision improved dramatically when they moved to the countryside after retirement.
Cold water splashes: Rinsing your eyes with cold water in the morning and evening will help relax your eyes and help with vision.
Exercises: Eye lens is held by a muscle, and eye sight weakens when this muscle becomes weak. Use of vision aides further prevents the use of the eye muscle. Unfortunately with muscles it is true that "you lose what you don't use". So in order to keep your vision good make sure you exercise your eyes throughout the day.
Keeping your head straight, and then in slow motion
- roll your eyes clockwise and then anticlockwise for at least 10 times in slow motion
- Look up and down 10 times
- Bring the index fingers of each hand by the respective shoulder (keeping at your eye level), and then look sideways slowly. First look sideways at your right finger, then bring the vision to the middle and then look at the left index finger and wait for
