extremely dark) and upon putting her in the stall, on my way back to the house, I glanced at the night sky. I have always enjoyed star gazing but what I saw at that time, I will never see again and most would not believe. Haley's Comet had made the orbit around the sun and was moving away from the sun and there in the mid morning hours, I saw the comet. I knew that it was Haley's Comet as I had followed the orbit on the news but I never expected to see it. I was in awe at what I was seeing, so clear and visible with the naked eye. That was a once in a lifetime experience and one that I don't mention often as most people are skeptical when I mention it, but I know what I saw and I know that most will never experience that. I would not have had that experience, if my mare had decided to be a good horse and stay in her stall!
Yes, animals have allowed my life to be full of surprises, full of laughter, full of pain and tears. When I lost my Irish Setter of 13 years, I cried for days and still miss her to this day. She was my best friend, my child and my protector. She loved me and my children and watched over us with the fierce protection of one that loves with no boundaries. I watched my animal children grow and die and each time, they left me a tremendous amount of love contained within their memory. I would not trade those memories for any amount of money.
Our lives are fulfilled by the love we receive both from our family and our friends, it really doesn't matter if they are four legged and have fur or not, the important thing is that they make us better people, they enrich our lives and grant us happiness without ever asking anything of us in return. To have love and happiness is what life is really all about, the source of that love and happiness can be from humans or from pets, it is still love and it makes our lives richer for having that experience.
