Newburyport, is not the smallest city in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in fact it's the 107th largest. It is however, one of the friendliest and most stately architectural places in all of New England. Known mostly as a seaside community with fantastic restaurants, beautifully groomed uncrowded beaches and quaint shopping outlets, Newburyport offers it's 17,233 residents a fantastic place to live and raise a family.

The aggressive education Newburyport children receive from the moment they start elementary school through the grand day of graduation from high school, is state of the art and geared for the 21st century. As parent's drive toward Newburyport High School with their teens in tow, they will see history, and feel the bone chilling pride of its student body. Testimony to that fact: 95 % of all graduating seniors go on to receive higher education degrees in a field they love.

Newburyport High School, has a student / teacher ratio of 12 to 1, and is ranked 75th of Massachusetts 310 public high schools. Great Schools.com has given it the rare score of 9 out of a possible 10, which is a distinguishing mark of excellent in a state know for education.

Newburyport High School was originally founded in 1868, after it partnered with four other small schools, Latin English founded in 1831, Brown High School founded in 1851, Putnam Free school founded in 1848, and Female High school founded in 1843. At first, the community called its high school Consolidated High. In 1889, they settling on its present name of Newburyport High School. With all that history, no wonder they boast being one of the oldest schools in America.

Newburyport High School is a 4-year accredited public comprehensive high school with an elegant colonial look on the outside and new wave learning happening on the inside. The gigantic white pillars that greet every visitor and student instill success within its 760 student-body from day one. These kids are proud to wear the maroon and gold colors of their school. Especially during the Thanksgiving Day Football game with nearby Amesbury High. The football rivalry began in 1891, though was not sanctioned until 1914. This is one of the oldest football rivalry's in US History. The game and homecoming rally are intense and inspiring. These two teams have played every year, on the same day for over one hundred years. Phenomenal.

Newburyport incorporates the 4 classes per day schedule. Each class is 90 minutes long and has a proved record in keeping student scores high. There is no dilly dallying between classes in this school as you have only five minutes to go from class to class. It's structured and disciplined and the kids want it that way.

The core subjects of Math, World History, Life and Physical Sciences and World languages are split between quarters to allow for easy learning. As with all Massachusetts high schools, a student must have at least 80 credits, and 4years of Phys. Ed to graduate. Also, by law, Massachusetts requires all high school students to pass the Mcas Test. An assessment of what the school has taught and the student has learned. Passing this test is mandatory in order to receive a diploma. These high standards and the premises that all students learn academics, career options, as well as personal and social relationships, show the true success of the students and teaching staff of Newburyport High School.
