Something I have noticed with kids lately is that they would rather be on the computer or playing their video games than going outside and playing in the grass or looking for little creatures to investagate. When I was a kid there was no way you were keeping me inside for longer than eating my meal and washing up after. Kids really need to learn an appreciation for wildlife and nature if they are to be the ones that we look to in the future to save these things.
Wel,l if you are wondering for a few ways to get you child into going outside and loving nature is to first show them that nature varies from place to place. You need to show them that they have different animals all over the world that aren't in your back yard. This will definitely get their curiosity or at least it should if you get to them young enough. Also when they are young you need to take them out often teach them that being in the house is not OK that you only need to be in the house for eating and sleeping or when they are sick. When they are in the house you need to do a couple of other things. You shouldn't be letting you child on the computer until they are in high school to begin with but if they are don't let them be on the computer for too long you need to keep them on a time limit for their computer time. That way they don't get used to being on for too long and get used to getting off and going outside.
Then you should take them to a zoo. Show them some really weird and gross and creepy animals. Boys love gross animals and girls will like the cute ones. This will get them interested in learning more about them and in turn teach them so appreciation for them. When you are doing this though you have to be sure not to over do it because then they take it as a usual thing and take it for granted. Show them the different types of animals and teach them a bit about them.
For the natural appreciation you should take them camping in some remote locations that are far from cities and the type of camping that involves a tent not in a RV that's not camping. Take them to some really nice places, places that have some beautiful scenery. Show them some nice pictures of mountains, rivers, forests, deserts, and some rolling fields. Show them that all of these places are beautiful but few and far between. This way they will appreciate seeing them and know that they won't be seeing things like these anywhere else. Make sure you don't over do this because again they will take it for granted and obviously not appreciate it for what it is.
Do these things and you children should become interested and then in turn gain an appreciation for it.
