Since the dawning of mankind and the first utilization of fire, humans have desired to see in the dark. Though in primitive times that desire may have stemmed more from keeping predators at bay, it is no less important today. There is no magic bullet to improve night vision naturally, but there are things you can do to prevent loss of night vision or to regain lost night vision.
There are three actions you can take for better night vision: Preventative, regenerative, and technique exercises. Preventative steps encompass actions that will help you keep your night vision from degrading. Regenerative steps encompass actions you can take to restore lost night vision. Technique exercises encompass actions you can take to train your mind to interpret the information it receives more effectively.
Preventative.
1. Your eyes are sensitive machines that require your attention and care to continue working at their best. Diet is an important part of preventative measures to keep your eyes healthy. Your eyes require nutrients and vitamins just as much as the rest of your body. Eating lots of vegetables will provide the best source of the vitamins needed for healthy eyesight. Failing that, multi-vitamins can be taken as well.
2. Sunlight is bad for your skin, but it is worse for your eyesight. There are many harmful rays, such as ultraviolet, that can damage your vision. Damage from sunlight can be permanent. When outside during the day you should wear sunglasses or some sort of polarized lenses.
3. When reading, watching TV, working on your computer or doing anything else that requires concentrated use of your eyes, make sure there is plenty of light. Do not strain or squint your eyes to see better. If you find yourself getting a headache, take a break for a few minutes to give your eyes a rest.
4. If you have an itch on or around your eyes, resist the temptation to put pressure on them. Putting pressure on your eyes may cause them to misshapen over time. This may cause temporary vision loss or damage your eyes in other more permanent ways.
Regenerative.
1. If you have diabetes, or other diseases that prevent good blood flow in your body, keeping track of your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels is important. Some damage or loss of vision may return if proper care is taken in time.
2. Quitting smoking is a great way to increase your chance of regaining lost vision. Cigarette smoke causes an oxygen deficiency in your body that can have a negative affect on vision.
