Secrets of getting organized

Do you look around your home and wonder where the floor is? When you need baby wipes or that last Excedrin is it difficult to find? You're not alone! There IS a way out and it won't take all your time for days on end to fix it! That should motivate you to keep reading, learn how to uncluttered your home and get organized!

The first step is to get uncluttered. You will sort everything you own into three piles. #1 - Keep. #2 - Storage. #3 - Sell/Toss. In order to succeed you must be willing to let go of things. If you get stuck on what to do with an item ask yourself what is more important to you: The item or getting organized? Step two: clean your house out! Go through everything you own. You'll be surprised at what you find. Step three: have a garage sale. This is a great way to make some money to help you with the next few steps. Anything that is not sold in the garage sale needs to be either donated or tossed in the garbage. The items that are too big for the garbage can be hauled away during bulk pick up days or by a local junk company.

Step four is to create space with the money you made from the garage sale. What you do with your space is up to you, but it is important to use closets, shelves, boxes, bins, wall storage, built-in storage. Not only will this help you stay more organized, but you'll be surprised at how much space you really do have in your home! Before we begin sorting through the keep and storage piles you've created, let's talk about why it is so important to be and stay organized.

Being organized is not a fad or a popularity thing. It is essential for every person, every home and every office. If you own a business and are not organized, it will be very difficult to find the correct papers when the IRS audits you. If you own a home and are not organized (especially with young children), you may find it more difficult to clean and therefore your home could become less sanitary than it needs to be. Being organized can also help you free up time that you could use for fun stuff with family and friends! Use your calendar and hang it up. Spend less time searching for papers and more time playing baseball. Be less stressed when you're desperately searching for that W2 when tax season is upon you! Being organized will ease the stress in your life.

Step five is to do a major sort of everything you decided to keep from the first sort. The major sort consists of dividing things up into the rooms or specific spaces they need to go. Anything for your home office needs to be in one pile. You medicine needs to all be in one place so there is no guess work when someone gets really sick. Emergency numbers should be located where everyone can see them. Business cards no longer need to be kept because you can write all the information down in your address book or upload them to your phone or computer. Too many papers? File everything. Even if it looks like you have too many file folders, who cares?! This is your life you're organizing, distressing and unflattering. When you're all done you'll be amazed at how great you feel!
