The wind whipped chill
Up the mountain
Casting loose pieces
Hither and yon.
The moon hid
Behind a billowing cloud.
Off in the distance
A thunder clap, loud.
The sun sleepily crept
O'er the horizon,
Warm sunbeams
One after one,
Revealing the trees
Survivors once again.
Branches outstretched
Linked hand-in-hand.
Ivy and moss strung
Between trunk and
Branch, bush, rock,
Soil and sand.
Woven tightly, each
Frail on its own.
Together mighty, against
Any wind blown.
