Disciplinary hearings can make anyone shiver with stress. Companies though have to go through these avenues legally, and they have a procedure to follow with regards to disciplining employees. Here are the top ten things that could get any employee into trouble in any country:
1. Mistakes. This is the number one cause of firing employees in any firm or company. Mistakes are costly, and no employer can afford to keep employees that continually make mistakes. Companies have to first help support employees who do make mistakes, but it is on the onus of the employee to see that they are accurate most of the time. and many companies give employees a certain number of times that mistakes can be made, and then incidents forms are filled in and the employee is taken via the disciplinary route.
2. Theft. This is an area which most employees have to be very careful Stealing is regarded as misconduct, and therefore disciplinary action will be taken by a company. An employee who has had a verbal warning needs to reform to proper behaviour, or stealing some small item can cost him/her his/her job.
3. Use of restricted sites on Internet, like porn and dating sites. Many companies do allow staff to use the Internet for personal use, however certain sites like porn sites and social networking sites are restricted, and employees can once again be disciplined for this , as this falls under misconduct.
4. The use of mobile phones whilst on duty. Many companies do not use allow the use of mobile phones on duty as this is very unprofessional. Employees can get into very big trouble if caught using mobile phones on duty.
5. Using company telephone for long distance telephone calls. Most companies allow staff to make local calls, but staff cannot take advantage of the telephone, and speak on it for a leg ht of time.
6. Assault. This is a very bad one, and many workers can get into serious trouble for assaulting any member of staff be it verbal or physical. Physical assault can also be termed criminal and the employee can find himself being sent to prison for a couple of months. Employees need to control temper, as work does get stressful, and many employees feel that they cannot continue with the current situation.
7. Bullying. Managers and superiors should never try to emotionally abuse or push their weight around with subordinates. Many employees will lay formal complaints, and the culprit could also be taken to court in most countries.
8. Absenteeism. Staff should not regularly stay away from work.
9. Fake qualifications. Employees should not lie or produce fake qualifications.
10. Inappropriate dress code.
