The Human and Wolf Connection:
Since the dawn of time, man has felt a deep rooted connection with the wolf. In fact, Native Americans hold the wolf in very high regard in legend and spirituality. There are many similarities between the nature of a wolf and that of man. The most prominent similarity is that of being in groups. Wolves travel in packs and man has family and friends. Among that pack of individuals there are those that are dominant and those that are serving or submissive. That is very close to how families and groups of friends operate.
Wolves are hunters and it is also in human nature to hunt and find what is needed to live. Man hunts for food, just not in the same manner as the wolf. People will prefer the meat at one store and the produce at another. Humans search for a home just as wolves search for a den.
Like the wolf, man tends to be very territorial as well as protective.
In Native American and those in other cultures the wolf is very important and shares a connection with man. For Native Americans, the wolf speaks to them in their dreams and visions. Many cultures have the legend and folklore of the Werewolf where it is said that man actually becomes a wolf-like creature.
Although man feels a connection with several animals, there is none as strong as the connection with the wolf The nature of the two are very similar and humans have a tendency to both respect and fear the wolf. The same can be said about the relationship between humans. Man craves companionship and yet has a suspicious nature. Wolves, in nature are trusting of the members of their pack but wary of outsiders, although have been known to accept a wanderer or orphan into their pack.
Wolf and man share a lot of similarities and also instincts. Man is basically primal although he lives in what is called a civilized society. The instincts are still there and are very similar to those of the wolf. Consider a human in desperate situations and you will see that their behavior is remarkably close to that of a wolf. When trapped, a man will often lash out the same way a wolf will attack if it feels threatened. Man always has and probably always will feel a very strong connection to the wolf. Both man and wolf have evolved, and man is even known for keeping a relative of the wolf as a close companion. There has always been a strong relationship between humans and dogs. In almost every way but physical, humans and wolves share a spirit and nature that has been recognized since the beginning of time.
