What behavior would be considered unique when thinking in the terms of a cat? Most cats have unique personalities, as unique as their owners, complete with traits, wants, and needs that are different from other cats. Ask any cat lover if their cat's have unique traits, and they will begin a list that could end up lasting a month. Ask a person who owns cats, but thinks of them only as pets, and they will think you are insane.

There are traits that are unique to a specific breed. For instance, the Maine Coon Cat is known for being loving, having a kind disposition, and a legendary mouser. So a trait that would be unique to a Maine Coon Cat would be distaste for hunting. Persians are known for being serene and easy-going. So a behavior that would be unique to that breed would be a hyper-active cat.

There are also the myths that surround the feline itself. Cats are believed to hate water, yet many cat lovers have had at least one cat who adored water. Another myth is that cats are graceful. That is very true. Their abilities for their size is phenomenal. However, most cat owners will again claim to have had one klutzy cat.

There are unique behaviors and traits to each animal if the personality of that animal is allowed to develop. Being able to find traits that are unique to individual cats would be hard to do.

The list of "unique" traits is almost endless. There are cats that will partially stand up in order to be picked up. Others have been known to bump their foreheads against your face in order to give you a kiss. There have been cats who have guarded children as if they were their kittens. There have been cats who have raised mice, possums, skunks, squirrels, dogs, and other cats' kittens. Cats have saved kids from drowning. Other cats have rescued baby birds from the ground. There are cats who catch, but avoid harming smaller creatures, in order to bring them home to their "family".

Then think about the fact that though cats are stubborn, they can also learn tricks. They can do amazing acrobatics if trained correctly. There have been cats who were capable of standing on balls that weren't anchored. Other cats have jumped through rings of fire, danced and even rode other animals like the animals were horses. There was even a pair of cats who could "sing".

Cats are amazing creatures. They can bring joy to anyone's life with their antics. But do they have truly unique traits or is it breeding, something that they learned, or something they were trained to do? In the end only you can decide whether your cats have unique personality traits. Well, you and your cat.
