While there are a lot of benefits that most of us know from having sex, few of us know just how many health benefits that there are. It is true that sex makes us feel good, raises our self esteem, and helps our relationships. But studies show that sex two or more times a week could actually prolong your life. With all the health benefits that research is finding it gives you one more reason to enjoy sex.
Exercise.
We all know that we need exercise. What few of us fail to understand is that sex is great exercise. A half an hour of sexual activity burns at least 85-200 calories. In addition to that it improves muscle tone and flexibility, increases strength, and is wonderful for your cardiovascular health as well.
Improves Cardiovascular Health.
You heart is important. The exercise that is provided by sex is good for it. In addition to that sex lowers blood pressure and your risk of heart attack and stroke. Even as you age you can decrease your risk of these problems by having sex two or more times a week.
Boosts Immunity.
Research shows that those who have sex regularly are less likely to get ill, more likely to get better faster, less likely to see a doctor, and more likely to have a shorter hospital stay no matter what they are there for. It is believed that this is in part because of the hormones that are released during sexual activity and partly because sex increases immunoglobulin A which helps the immune system take care of itself.
Detoxifies the Body.
The increased blood flow from sexual activity provides more oxygen to the organs of the body. It also helps the body get rid of toxins that are in the organs. This helps your body function better.
Reduces Pain.
Sexual activity releases oxytocin, a hormone that is a natural pain reliever. It can help reduce headaches, lessen cramps, releive PMS symptoms, and ease other aches and pains. Sex can actually be good for getting rid of that headache!
Fountain of Youth.
People have searched for a long time for the fountain of youth. However, it should be noted that sex could very well be the fountain of youth. Sex releases DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) into the blood stream. DHEA boosts that immune system, repairs tissues, improves cognition, keeps skin healthy, and is even an antidepressant.
Less Depression and Anxiety.
People who have sex two or more times a week have less depression and anxiety. This could be because of the relationships that go behind sex. However, it is also likely to be because of the hormones released
