Reflections: Human imperfection

Healing power is more than medication. Western style medicine has put a lot of their healing eggs in one basket with the use of pharmaceutical drugs and OTC medications. Drug stores now carry hundreds of varieties of pills, syrups, lozenges, lotions, and countless other meds that provide some sort of relief from discomfort for the patient. People are convinced that anybody ailment may be fixed effortlessly just by swallowing a tiny white pill or drinking two tablespoons of that fruity syrup. The Western practice of medicine isfairly new.American's will take a pillfor almost anything because science and chemistry have changed medicine drastically, allowing for a new era of Pop-a-Pill sickness relief.

For many centuries the practice of medicine was sung to a different tune. Many Eastern cultures have long celebrated more ritualistic and traditional methods of healing. The ancient Chinese were progressive leaders in believing that a sick body was the effect of an ill soul. The cultures of yesterday believed a healthy mind, one with spiritual clarity, intelligence, balance, and proper nurishment would keep a person healthy in the body. Illnesses were regarded not as an unwanted body function, but more as a reaction by the body indicating a problem with the mind's enviroment. These beliefs and tradition, though popular and widely accepted at one time among the Eastern medicine's elite, has lost significant ground among the general public to the new world of modern medicine.

In a clash of cultures, Western medicine has always had a distinct advantage over the more traditional Eastern methods: science. The ability to physically prove that such a cause will incurr such an effect is not something to ignore. There is proof in the madness of science.

Have a headache? There are dozens of varieties of pills to take to "cure" your temporary discomfort. In fact, most remedies offered at a drug store serve only a small purpose; to cover up symptoms. The concern I have is this; When you trick your body into not showing symptoms of illness by popping a pill, how can the body's own defense system accurately identify and neutralize the offending illness? Are we training our body's to stop defending itself in the situation of danger? For the sake of conveniece, people may possibly be sacrificing the body's immune system defenses and ability to naturally and sometimes miraculously stop an impending virul or bacterial attack.

There is a larger cover-up happening in modern medicine right
