With scientists claiming that we all need to be participating in 30-60 minutes of vigorous exercise each day; it is not surprising that many of us are left wondering how to fit this extra activity into our already busy schedules. There is no need to panic as there are many ways that you can add extra exercise to your day without setting aside 30-60 minutes to go crazy on a treadmill in an overcrowded gym.
With time scales dictating our modern lives it is no wonder that people are finding less time to exercise and stay healthy. Just 30-60 minutes of exercise each day can have a major positive impact on your cardiovascular health. To put it in context, studies have shown that as little as 20 minutes of brisk walking each day can result in 30% drop in cardiovascular health problems.
In this article I will look at just some of the simple ways in which you can add extra exercise to your day.
Setting your alarm clock 10 minutes early will give you enough time to start your day with a short 10 minute exercise routine. Starting your day with 10 minutes of Pilate's or yoga or will leave you feeling energized and ready to start the day.
Walking or cycling to work is another great way to get extra exercise and not to mention saving time and money when it comes to finding a place to park. If you live to far away from work to walk or cycle straight from home then why not park a mile from the office or get off the bus one stop early and walk the rest of the way to work. That brisk walk will be doing you the world of good.
Making use of stairs rather than lifts is another simple way to get that heart pumping. If you work on any floor above the ground floor walking up and down the stairs will really add up throughout the day. If you work on a higher floor then even better. If you feel that you cannot manage walking all the way to the top of the stairs then even taking the lift part way and taking the stairs the rest of the way will help to build up your stamina. You will be surprised how soon you will be leaping up those steps.
At lunchtime, weather permitting of course; why not take a stroll around the block. A short 20 minute walk will really help to clear your head and will be adding more exercise to your day. You will really notice the benefit from this if you are used to not leaving your office at all during the day, even at lunch.
Finding a hobby or activity that you like in the evenings can also be a great way to add that extra exercise to your daily routine. Dance classes, swimming, tennis, football, are all great activities that are fun. Why not take some work mates or friends along to join in. Exercise does not have to be boring after all! Evening walks and cycling are a great activity for couples to enjoy together and to receive the extra health benefits.
It really is surprising how small changes in daily routine can add extra exercise to your daily quota. The simple ways mentioned in this article are all small ways in which you can aim to achieve the 30-60 minutes of daily exercise. All the ideas above can be easily implemented into your daily routine and help you towards a healthier lifestyle and most importantly a healthier heart.
