It's been a while since a successful TV show mixed reality with the paranormal. The X-Files was a groundbreaking show that combined science, elements of reality, the paranormal and drama. It was one of the best shows on television of its kind. TV shows that came after it tried to copy the formula, some with interesting results and others not so well, but many failed to capture the dark atmosphere, humor, writing excellence, creativity and chemistry between characters. Now, along comes a dynamite new show that may be the heir to The X-Files - Fringe. Its similarities to its predessecor are undeniable, yet, Fringe is its own unique animal and it has shown much promise. Fringe is turning out to be one of the best new shows on television.

While The X- Files dealt with fringe science, alien human hybrids and a central plot involving aliens and huge government conspiracy, it also dealt with all kinds of paranormal phenomena. Philip Broyles is the hard, secretive and enigmatic Homeland Security Agent that she works under. Broyles's job is to uncover those behind The Pattern. He recruits Olivia to his team. In order for her to do the work to uncover who or what is responsible for these crimes she needs colleagues as resourceful and creative as she is. Peter Bishop is a brilliant man with interesting and wide ranging connections and a cloudy past. He's cool under pressure and thinks quckly on his feet. Walter Bishop, his father and a genius scientist was once institutionalized for mental illness after one of his experiments went bad. He has trouble focusing and is very eccentric but has a deep knowledge of science and is able to think outside of the box when it comes to helping them solve cases. Astrid Farmsworth is the FBI agent that does the lab and computer work for the team in helping them solve cases. Agent Charlie Francis is the special field agent that helps Olivia out in the field. This is the team and they are tough, smart and up to the task. They have to be, because they are up against some
