Dieting can be a frustrating experience but it does not have to be, the first thing we have to deal with is realizing that we need to change our habits that have contributed to the problem of over weight

A great way to start is to keep a 3 to 5 day journal of everything we eat and do with times and portion sizes. this gives us a place to start and make adjustments. Break down the times of day you are eating , are you eating at set time daily , just when ever you are hungry or do you wait until you are starving to eat?

Eating smaller portions throughout the day can help to curb appetite more effectively but also what you eat is important. more fresh veg's and fruits will contribute to a healthier you or course that is not always convenient to do so we must look at ways to improvise healthy habits into today's busy schedules.

Planning out the menu in advance can help not only save time but those long moments standing in front of the refridgerator, put portions in individual serving sizes for several days ahead will allow you to grab and go.

First look at the foods you eat and remember that your grains should be natural whole grains, cut out as much bread as possible

Look at your sugar intake and not just regular sugar but hig fructose corn syrup as well- READ the labels on the foods you eat,

Processed foods take longer for the body to break down so keep in mind that fresh and simple foods are best.

When eating out many restaurants have guides these days as to heart healthy and diet plates, keep in mind again that bread basket can be a non essential temptation so ask to have ti removed. Look for smaller portions or eat only half and save the rest for later.

If you have the tendency to wait until you are starving and then eat everything in site your habits need to change for this is all habit, prepare several small baggy size snacks and keep them with you munching all day long instead of that big binge. Also be sure to drink plenty of fluid and/or a large glass of water before meals will help fill you and stop you from over eating.

There are many great protein bars on the market that allow you to fill up and satisfy your hunger without over eating so check into some of the many more healthy snacks available.

Plan ahead as last minute meals and snacks can tend to lead us down the wrong path and avaoid the snack isles in the store as impulse buying lead to trouble as well. Plan out your list before going to the store and do not deviate unless substituting one brand for another.

Another healthy tip is to avoid eating after 6pm as it will deter snacking and what can be called lazy eating or the couch potato who sits watching tv while eating a whole bag of chips and dip.

Keeping a food and activity journal will help you to adjust your habits and see what works and what does not, remember everyone is a bit different so what works for your friend may not work for you. Individualize your eating, exercise and lifestyle to fit your needs for a healthy and long life.
