The Body
I look upon the body
that once protected life,
a body torn, ravaged,
unable to protect any
longer.
I survey the damage
as life escapes multiple
penetrations of the bodies
armor into hard ground,
soon,
absorbed and hidden
from future sight.
I gaze upon the face,
once beautiful, barely
recognizable.
My gaze wonders from this body,
before me,
more bodies strewn
across an estranged landscape.
A landscape unprotected from hate.
Bodies soon to be packed away,
forgotten, replenished by new
bodies destined to share
the same fate.
Destroyed by their fellow man.
