When it comes to drunk driving, there is no better way to make a person think twice than to educate them about the dangers of what they are doing. Nobody can drive while drinking, or while under the influence of alcohol. While we think it allows us to be better drivers, and keep ourselves more focused while we drive, it isn't a good idea, nor should anyone ever try to drive while drinking. Even if you make it home safely, you still have potentially put people in danger.
I have been to the five hour class, and have sat throught the health class videos where they scare you with images of deadly crashes. I had a cousin that was killed by a drunk driver, and while I was too young to understand what that really meant when it happened, I understand how devastating it would be if someone I loved was killed by a drunk driver. Nobody means to hurt another human while drunk, but it can have such a broad impact on people if it does happen.
Not only could you hit someone else, but you could crash into a pole and hurt yourself while driving drunk. If you wind up getting hurt, think of all the people that would be effected by it. Your family would be saddened, and you would be in a lot of pain, and would spend a long time recovering from it. The medical bills would be ridiculous, and health care is really expensive, and the last thing you need to do is go the hospital.
Would you be able to handle the guilt of being at fault for an accident that was caused because you were drunk? How would you like to be labeled as a drunken idiot for the rest of your life? Those are the realities of being a drunk driver, and if you ever got caught, could you live with that? Would you be able to handle getting arrested, and not being able to come home that night to your family? Would the embarrassment be worth not sleeping over at your friends house for the night?
There really is no excuse for driving drunk. You have the choice to stay home, or stay at your friends house for the night. If you have no means of getting home safely then you shouldn't drink in the first place. Planning ahead means that you have a DD, or that you have some way of getting home without endangering the people that might be out while you are driving drunk. You might as well be driving with one hand if you are going to drive drunk.
There are plenty of classes that you can take in order to learn about the dangers of driving drunk. There are tapes you can watch, and courses that you can take to lower your insurance bills. Driving drunk is something that you should never do, and something that can be avoided. If you drive drunk, and you get caught, you are going to have to suffer the consequences of your actions.
