time, but as a child I saw him forge his own luck. Events didn't happen to him, he made them happen.
The sexual undertones in the movie, besides the obvious, were lost on the younger version of me, but the connection Jenny and Forrest had wasn't. Though I was too young for love, it is a concept anyone of any age or intelligence can understand when they see it. The things he did for her by adults standards may be considered rash, or stupid as some might put it, but as a ten year old they were just and right. Of course Forrest is going to open the car of that door and punch that guy in the face, he was hurting Jenny. Likewise with the guy who threw that drink on her and smacked her. Forrest did not think, he acted. This is something my ten year old self readily understands opposed to who I am now, who would at the very least contemplate what I was about to do before I hit anyone.
Forrest ran, he went to war, he played ping pong, and he ran. Forrest acted, mainly because his ability to think was limited to a degree, but in no way did this stop him from having a life full of conviction, ethics, and love. This is because he acted. Though the thoughts and feelings of a ten year old may not be advantageous or realistic in a lot of cases Forrest does show that action speaks louder than words and that we should take actions in ourselves if we ever hope to impact the world.
I could go on and write how incredible the movie is and what makes it so. I doubt though that anything I write would be different than any number of reviews given since this movie came out a decade and a half ago. I'm merely passing on my personal experience with this amazing movie. A movie I plan to have my children watch when they are younger. Re-visiting movies is a great feeling of nostalgia sometimes, but every so often we're able to have our eyes opened for us just a little more. I look forward to other parallels I might find with my childhood and my adult life, and I invite you to sit down with your inner child and talk about how Mr. Gump affected you.
