This game along with Final Fantasy 7 for the Sony Playstation 2 is one of my personal favorites in the Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy X was released by Squaresoft that is now know as Square-Enix in 2001 and it was the first foray into the Playstation 2 for the series. I will not describe the story for you as not to ruin the story for you.
Pros:
Presentation
The in game movies are down right beautiful the only downside being they can get a bit long at certain parts and the soundtrack is excellent. The in-game visuals are on par with the graphics at that time.
Story
The story in Final Fantasy X is a good one. The characters in this game are very memorable and even though some characters can be very annoying like for Titus they are still lovable to a degree.
New Features!
The most notable is the new turn based battle system replacing the active time battle system used in previous games. Another new feature for this game is the sphere system in which when your character gains a level they get sphere points which when applied to a sphere tree to decide their skills. Summons have been vastly improved, in previous games when you summoned a creature in a battle it made one attack and then disappeared in this game the summon takes the place of the party until called back by the user or if it is downed by an enemy. Also for the first time in the series uses fully three dimensional areas instead of pre-rendered one's and another first is the use of voice actors this added emotion that betters the game as a whole.
Blitzball!
Mini-games aren't exactly new in Final Fantasy but this one is a personal favorite of mine. Blitzball is basically a mix of soccer, American football and water polo all held in a sphere of water! I would advise you to check it out but since you need to play one game to progress in the story I would say put more time into it and give it a chance.
Cons:
Grinding
I know grinding is a part of any role-playing game but to make your party to any kind of formidable it takes hours longer than it should unless you find all of the ultima weapons and even then it is a pain.
A bit linear
In comparison to other Final Fantasy games ten feels a bit more linear. For example instead of a somewhat open world map such as the one in Final Fantasy 7 you get a map that you can only go on one path.
Overall I would rate this game a nine out of ten pick it up if you can find it you won't regret it unless of course you don't like role playing games.
